Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities Honors Chairman Steve Holland with "Champion of the People Award"

Press Release

Location: Unknown

During their annual Legislative Awareness Day at the State Capitol, the Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities honored Chairman Steve Holland with the "Champion of the People Award". The award is given to legislators who stand out in their contributions to policy and advocacy to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities in the state of Mississippi. This honor is a tribute to the organization's founder Mark Smith.

"Representative Holland has always been a champion of the people," said Mary Troupe, the organization's Executive Director. "He stood up for the community when major Medicaid cuts were being implemented, has always been supportive and vocal on issues that affect people with disabilities year after year, and we know he genuinely cares and can be counted on to do what is right for the people. In a tribute called "The Decision," it was said about Mark Smith, "He gave to people who could only offer in return love, loyalty, and dedication." These are also the characteristics in Steve Holland that led us to choose him for this award."

Rep. Holland, a veteran of 25 years in the Mississippi House of Representatives, is seeking the democratic nomination for U.S. Congress in the March 11 election. This is an open seat vacated by Roger Wicker, who was appointed U.S. Senator.

"I am humbled by this distinctive award," Holland said. "I applaud courageous citizens who excel and contribute while overcoming obstacles. My public service has been dedicated to listening and responding where government can help. I will carry this legacy to Washington as Congressman."
