PROTECTIONS AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE
More people in Michigan die from gun violence than from traffic accidents. I support common-sense measures that can help prevent gun massacres that have taken too many lives in our communities.
As an ER physician who has treated and lost patients to gun violence, and who has seen mental health patients suffer with no place to go for help, I will champion common-sense, responsible safeguards against gun massacres. I will stand up to the gun industry lobby and no amount of PAC money is worth sacrificing a single life to gun violence. Failure to act now is pure political cowardice.
I support a wide range of real reforms to reduce gun violence. I am announcing 6 specific measures that I will champion as a member of Congress.
Ending gun manufacturers' near-total immunity that prevents them from accountability
Universal, more-robust background checks for all gun sales
Banning military-style assault weapons such as the AR-15 used in Parkland
Banning high-capacity magazines
Providing more funds for mental health programs and behavioral medicine resources in schools
Ending a 22-year-old provision that blocks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from researching gun violence and its impact on public health
